2. Upload a template and analyze with AI

After the assignment/exam is created, upload the blank paper, the answer key, or a template that includes a solution. AI extracts the questions, points, and grading criteria from that file.

Upload a template / answer key

On the wizard's first screen, upload the paper as a PDF or image. The file should include the answer key or a sample solution if possible; AI produces more accurate criteria from that reference.

Step 01 Upload File screen; two drag-and-drop cards: image on the left (JPG/JPEG/PNG, 10 MB), PDF on the right (100 MB); 'Select and Continue' button at the bottom right.
Step 1 — Upload Files
  • The image card is for single-page JPG/PNG files.
  • The PDF card is for multi-page exams, answer keys, or solution documents.
  • Select and Continue saves the file and moves to the AI analysis screen.

Question analysis with AI

When the upload finishes, Notla analyzes the template and automatically extracts question titles, points, and rubric criteria. After analysis completes, quickly check the question cards and correct missing or wrong criteria.

Step 02 Add Questions; preview of the uploaded paper on the left, 'Processing questions' loading message on the right, 'Success: Template analysis started' notice at the top right.
AI question analysis started
  • While analysis runs, the panel shows *Processing questions*.
  • When the AI output is ready, check the suggested points and criteria for each question.
  • If a question is missing you can add it by hand; if the criteria are insufficient, edit them before automatic grading.
  • When questions and criteria are ready, continue to uploading student scans.
